Recognizing dairy’s unmatched contributions to the balanced diet of Canadians
Study after study has shown that dairy is an important part of a balanced diet. Dairy products offer a clean, simple ingredient label, a low level of added sugar, and good, natural fats and many of the vitamins and minerals we need to consume each day. As Canadians’ understanding of this has increased, so too has demand for delicious and nutritious products like milk, yogurt, and cheese.
Dairy is high in many of the nutrients that Health Canada says Canadians do not get enough of: vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, vitamin A, and vitamin D. In fact, milk is the major dietary source of vitamin D for many Canadians. As one of the most nutritious, bioavailable natural delivery systems of vitamin D, milk is one of few products to which vitamin D fortification is mandated in Canada. Providing Canadians with the information and products needed to support healthy eating habits is important to dairy processors. That is why the Dairy Processors Association of Canada supports government initiatives to provide consumers with the factual, meaningful information, backed by science needed to make appropriate dietary choices for themselves and their families.
