November 24, 2023 – The Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA) dispute settlement panel released its report regarding Canada’s administration of its dairy tariff rate quotas (TRQ) today. The panel was formed earlier this year at the request of the United States.
The report confirms that the Government of Canada abided by its CUSMA trade obligations when it revised its dairy TRQ allocation methodology following the release of the first dispute settlement panel’s report in January 2022. This revision was done in light of the first panel’s ruling and followed consultations with industry stakeholders.
DPAC wishes to thank Minister Ng and Government of Canada officials leading Canada’s defence for their collaboration and partnership throughout the dispute settlement panel’s proceedings. This decision will help provide the dairy sector with greater certainty and stability going forward.
