June 1, 2017 –
On World Milk Day, the Dairy Processors Association of Canada (DPAC) joins producers globally in raising a glass to the 240 million dedicated men and women who work in the dairy industry, and to those who enjoy our products worldwide. Here at home, we celebrate the 80,000 Canadians who contribute to our vibrant and innovative industry.
“This is an exciting time for our industry. We are not without challenges, but these come with great opportunities”, said Jacques Lefebvre, President and CEO of DPAC. “From cheesemaking, to yogurt, butter and ice cream, all the way to dairy ingredients, dairy processing is an exciting sector that is creating opportunities for a highly-skilled workforce while finding new and innovative ways to meet the demands of Canadian consumers.”
Recommended by Canada’s Food Guide as part of a balanced diet, dairy is not only good for your health, but is good for a healthy economy. Around the world, dairy benefits the livelihoods of close to one billion people through the creation of jobs, and contributions to the global Gross Domestic Product (GDP). In Canada, the dairy industry contributes $19.9 billion to the Canadian GDP.
Today we recognize all of these employees and thank them for their dedication to the industry. As we reach for our favorite dairy products, we think of them and appreciate the fruits of their labour.
